Lesson 24. Overview of COM and Active Technologies

This chapter will discuss COM, OLE, and Active Technologies. These are the technologies that comprise Microsoft's component strategy, and they are the interprocess communication methods of choice when building applications for Windows. COM is the basic component plumbing that provides services for COM, OLE, and other Active Technologies. OLE is Microsoft's GUI-centric component strategy for enabling desktop applications to work together seamlessly. This chapter introduces COM and OLE, and also takes a look at ActiveX controls and other Active Technologies from Microsoft.
