"Small business isnít for the faint of heart. Itís for the brave, the patient and the persistent. Itís for the overcomer" - Anonymous

When most people think of a small business, they have an impression of anything from a mom-and-pop grocery store or gift shop. They might also include service businesses (housecleaning, for example) with a couple of dozen employees. The US government, however, regards any business with fewer than 500 employees as a small business.

In the real world, the knowledge and skills required for managing a "small business" of 50 employees are vastly different in many respects from those having only 5 employees. I guess the moral of  the story is that the size of most businesses are better defined in terms of the management skills and attitudes rather than a headcount of employees.
