General Physics - Descriptive

bullet The Physics Classroom

This is the place to begin a serious study of physics. Just make sure you have your pencil sharpened and your study journal loaded with fresh pages of paper. This is a terrific place to start building your understanding of physics. Also make certain that Java is enabled for your browser, because some of the Java animations are very helpful.

General Physics - With Algebra

bullet College Physics, with Algebra

physics02.jpg (3109 bytes)This is a rigorous introduction to modern college physics. The required math level is college-level algebra and trigonometry.  The course in mainly intended for technologists, scientists, and engineers.

General Physics - With Calculus

bullet General Physics with Calculus

This is where you start learning real physics. It is a rigorous course, and yet the author manages to keep a sense of informality about it. It is a "must" for all would-be physicists.

Lecture series from MIT for physics majors and theoretical physicists.

Until I can find a more profound description, here is our working definition: Physics is the science of energy and matter and the interaction between them.

General Physics courses are traditionally divided into four segments of study: mechanics, optics, electricity and magnetism, and "modern" physics (atomic and particle physics, relativity ...). Most of physics courses cited on this page are classified as General Physics courses.

General physics courses are further classified according to the level of mathematics that is required. Descriptive

Which physics course is right for you at this time? Here's how you can find out: Pick a course and dive in. If you find you are hopelessly lost in the math and abstractions, back up one level. If you find it is too simple, do it anyway — you might learn something anyway.

Do you you need a stronger math background for level of physics you want to study? You will find what you need in our Mathematics Department.

Join us daily in the physics lecture hall. You never know what you might learn and who might appear as a guest speaker.
