Total Weight

Three cats have weights of 14 lb, 22 lb, and 18 lb. What is the total weight of these three cats?

Total weight = 14 lb + 22 lb + 18 lb = 54 lb
The total weight of the cats is 54 lb.

 

Jason weighs 185 lb and must weigh 178 lb in order to qualify for the varsity westling match. How much weight does he need to lose?

Weight to lose = 185 lb - 178 lb = 7 lb.
Jason has to lose 7 lb.

 

A certain type of ball bearing weights 2 1/2 oz. How much will 100 of them weigh in ources? In pounds?

Total weight = number of bearings x weight of each bearing
Total weight = 100 bearings x 2 1/2  oz/bearing = 250 oz.
Pounds = weight in ources/number of ounces per pound
Total weight in pounds = 250 oz/16 oz per pound = 15.625 lb or 15 5/8 lb
