Machinima is the use of real-time 3D computer graphics rendering engines to create a cinematic production. Most often, video games are used to generate the computer animation.

I admire the people who dreamed up this way of hacking video games to create their own video productions. All the heavy lifting of 3D animation is already one, so the machinima people can concentration on elements that are even more critical to a successful production--namely the story line, timing and camera angles, and editing. It is a great medium  for starting a a career in animation.
