Organic chemistry is the chemistry of substances made up of
carbon-based molecules, mostly those having at least one carbon-hydrogen
bond. The "organic" term originated in the days when it was believed all
organic compounds were of biologic origin. This isn't
exactly true anymore, but the nomenclature remains.
