For the purpose of engaging in lifelong learning, there is a clear distinction between religion and spirituality. Well, maybe there is a narrow, fuzzy sort of boundary; but the distinction is clear for the most part.

Spirituality is "other worldly."  Spiritual experiences and understandings are transcendental. They might be very real to the one experiencing them, but they are totally lost upon anyone else.

Religion, on the other hand, is "of this world." It is the playing out of spiritual insights in the physical world. Most religions in the world today are hands-on representations of a prophet's spirital discoveries. Frankly, most people are unaware, unwilling, or unable to delve into purely spiritual matters. So they gladly settle for religious practices that are hands-on, everyday representations of spiritual insights.

If lifelong learning in religion and spirituality appeals to you, and once you really understand the distinction between the two, there will not be enough sunrises in your life to satisfy your hunger for more learning.
