"THE ERUPTION OF A VOLCANO is one of nature’s most spectacular shows. Clouds of scalding volcanic ash are blasted into the air, or orange streams of molten rock pour down the volcano’s flank. Volcanoes represent an obvious geologic hazard, and past eruptions have claimed the lives of tens of thousands of people. In this chapter, we explore volcanoes, their landforms, and their associated hazards."
