INTRODUCTION The principles of chord progression are based upon the harmonic movement of a series of two or more chords as they move from one chord to another chord and eventually to the tonic chord. Root movement describes this harmonic motion and the relationship and function of the chord patterns. Chord groups are used to further describe the relationship and function of the chord patterns in a progression.
