2-9 Combining Integer Multiplication and Division
|When you complete the work for this section, you should be able to: |
- Write simplified versions of expressions that include both multiplication and division of signed integers.
Most of the examples and exercises in these lessons deal with only two terms at a time. However, you don't have to advance much further in your study of mathematics--and algebra in particular--until you encounter situation where you must multiply and divide strings of three or more signed integers. For instance:
(+ 4) x (+ 5) x (+ 12) x (+ 6) = _____
(+ 12) x ( 10) ÷ ( 8) = _____
(+ 72) ÷ (+ 16) x ( 2) = _____
(+ 17) x (+ 24) ÷ ( 1) x (+ 6) = _____
Performing Combinations of Multiplication and Division
When multiplying and dividing groups of three or more integers, always perform the operations from left to right.
Combining Multiplication and Division
These examples and exercises will show you that you've mastered the whole idea of dividing signed integers.
